Russell is an Assistant Director of the SCITT, with a specific focus on delivering Master’s level modules. He is also the Director of the ‘Stoke on Trent Research School’. This is a focal-point for evidence-informed practice in the region, building affiliations with large numbers of schools, and supporting the use of evidence to enhance and challenge educational practice. He has a keen interest in creative education, reflective practice and is an advocate of the P4C principles.
Russell has extensive experience in schools as a specialist teacher of music, senior leader and a governor. Russell was the Course Leader for the Master’s in Education and Postgraduate Certificate in Higher and Professional Education courses at Staffordshire University from 2014-17. He is actively involved in educational research and has presented papers at both national and international education conferences. Russell is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
