Mary has been involved in primary education both as a teacher and as an adviser. She has taught pupils across the primary age range and has held a number of positions in schools including subject leader for science and geography and NQT mentor. As a Leading Literacy Teacher in Staffordshire she was responsible for disseminating good practice through producing documents and networking with other teachers. She was an Associate Adviser in Staffordshire, being responsible for planning and delivering a range of training for teachers as part of the Primary Science Team. Mary was also an end of Key Stage 1 Moderator for several years and she led schools to develop English assessment using the APP approach.
Mary currently supports schools to develop science, particularly leadership, through her involvement with the Primary Science Quality Mark for whom she is also a reviewer. As a member of the Association for Science Education, Mary has delivered workshops at conferences with colleagues.
